SAFE YACHT STORAGE
To most of us our boat is our second most valuable possession, and is often the most cherished!!
- A dependable storage system is essential for piece of mind and safety.
- All cradles should be specified to suit the exact length, beam, draught and type of yacht.
- Yacht cradles and stands should be galvanised or suitably protected (modern paint systems rival the protection of galvanising at lower cost) from the harsh salt laden environment.
- Atlas also fully endorse and support the BMIF guidelines for laying yachts up ashore
- Storage of yachts ashore must be undertaken by competent personnel
- The base width of the cradle must be at least equal to the maximum beam of the vessel
- If the mast is to be left stepped while laid up the cradle base width is recommended to be at least 1.25 times the maximum beam of the vessel.
- The weight of the vessel should be spread evenly to the ground via the cradle.
- Yachts laid up in exposed positions or in areas where very high winter wind speeds are expected should have masts removed and / or be secured by 4 strong anchor points.
- Only cradles that are complete, free from structural corrosion and suitable for the yacht in question should be used. Yearly inspection is essential
- Special attention should be paid to light displacement designs with deep narrow keels.
